Local Picks - Things To Do in Kazakhstan

Every listing here comes straight from the people who live and breathe Kazakhstan daily, not a faceless algorithm or paid promotion.

Our Kazakhstan Local Expert team selects these experiences based on first-hand knowledge and frequent updates. They understand the seasons, neighborhoods, and nuances that make a difference for travelers wanting to get a genuine feel for the country. For example, Almaty’s Medeu rink is not just a tourist spot but a place locals enjoy especially in winter, arrive midweek to avoid crowds and soak up the mountain air.

You’ll find suggestions that go beyond typical guides, like grabbing a shashlik from a street vendor in Shymkent or exploring the lesser-known trails around Lake Kaindy when the autumn colors are in full swing. This is Kazakhstan from a local’s point of view, meaning practical, trustworthy, and always updated picks.
