Almaty Arrival and Departure

Almaty International Airport is the busiest airport in Kazakhstan connecting more than 20 destinations. Regular scheduled flights arrive from notable world cities and with highly reputed carriers such as Asiana Airlines, British Midland Airways, China Southern Airlines, Etihad Airways, KLM, Lufthansa, Turkish Airlines, Transaero.  Some of the most popular airlines in the world can be relied on to get you to Almaty.

The airport has one terminal. This building has an up-to date infrastructure and it is conveniently located just about 20 km away from the city. The newly built ring road significantly reduces travelling time from the airport to the centre of Almaty and back which allows access to the major hotels in 30 minutes. If you are a transit passenger, you may well spend time waiting for a connecting flight not within the confines of the airport, but in the city itself with its wide variety of restaurants, entertainment and cultural centres.

The airport has a bureau de change, café, ATMs, hotels, mobile phone service providers and gift shops. It also provides exclusive services for VIP passengers in designated lounges.

Taxi services:

The average cost of travel from the airport is 3,000 Tenge (about 17 USD). Be aware of scams involving taxis, and be sure to establish a total price, occasionally drivers agree to 3,000 Tenge but on arrival demand that price per kilometre. Avoid the services of private individuals and try to find a regular taxi (with a taxi sign and official company livery on the car), which is usually located near the airport’s main entrance. At the same time, bear in mind that travelling back to the airport typically costs about half the price of the taxi to the city.

Car rental:

At the airport there are several companies that provide car rental services. Rental prices per day start at 20 USD. In order to rent a car, a valid international driving licence and an initial deposit are required. Bear in mind that parking in some shopping centres and main streets of the city is provided on a paid basis.

Public transportation:

Public buses are available from outside the airport. You can take bus number 32, which follows the route from the airport all the way through the main streets of Almaty. The fare is 50 tenge. Regular shuttles are not provided.

VIP services:

VIP lounges at Almaty International Airport provide maximum comfort and a high quality service for VIP passengers. There is a separate check-in desk as well as separate security checkpoints, and customs and border control assists passengers with preflight procedures without wasting time.

An excellent bar operating twenty-four hours a day, separate comfortable transport, a meeting room where urgent meetings and press-conferences can be held as well as a private room are at VIP guests’ disposal. If you would like to order VIP lounge services beforehand, it is necessary to inform the agents as well as to make payment of 100 USD per pass.
