Of a number of cafes in Almaty which nicely capture the French atmosphere, the stylish BonBon serves probably the most popular coffee. Yet this alone would not have earned it such a good reputation. Instead, its cakes and pastries, teas and shisha served in such a peaceful and secluded space, adorned with mosaic parquet floor and crystal chandeliers give the joint an air of sophistication unmatched by most other local cafes. It being near the opera house makes it a good port of call en route to a performance, but at any time of day can you relax and enjoy the tranquillity. Oh, and the coffee too.
