Founded in 1975 as a way to preserve German culture in Kazakhstan, Deutches Theatre Almaty attracts followers of the genius of Goethe, Schiller, Heine and the brothers Grimm. For a third of a century the theatre has staged performances in German with simultaneous Russian translation for about 10,000 visitors a year. The theatre specialises in innovative, contemporary productions in addition to more traditional works.
