Considered a must-visit by the Almaty nouveau riche, the first floor of this cosmopolitan spot is reminiscent of a classical French restaurant with all the elegance of a château library, while the second floor bar area typifies the type of place more likely found in the far east. Grillage's neat terrace permits comfortable outdoor dining in the warmer months. The menu is extensive and to an extent changed to reflect the time of year, while the mainstay of meals, be they European, Russian or Japanese are served all year round. Despite the number of options, the chef prepares all meals with an expert touch making anything on the menu an automatic recommendation. Worth special mention are veal cheek with polenta, confit duck, rabbit ravioli and truffle spaghetti. The wine is also excellent, as is the service.
