Discover Kazakhstan’s cliffs and mountains with a climbing experience designed to improve your skills and expose you to the Ili Alatau landscape. The tour includes a safety briefing, equipment check, and instruction on belaying and rock movement, suitable for beginners or those looking to refine their technique.
Routes vary from easy slabs to challenging overhangs, ensuring climbers can find suitable lines. The day features a short approach hike, plenty of climbing time, and breaks with tea while enjoying views of peaks and rivers.
Climbing Locations Near Almaty
- Lesnichestvo Rocks: Beginner-friendly 20–25 meter top-rope routes, also good for dry tooling. Available year-round.
- Butakovsky Waterfall: Lead climbing routes graded 6a to 7c, 20–40 meters. Offers winter dry tooling and ice climbing when conditions permit.
- Bastions near Shymbulak: Multi-pitch climbs with five pitches, up to 250 meters, grade 6a/6a+. Available May to September.
- Ili River Area: Main climbing destination 100 km from Almaty with over 25 sectors and routes for all levels. Available April-May and September-October.

Booking and Preparation
Cancellations are accepted up to 24 hours before the tour for a full refund. Wear comfortable climbing clothes and bring your own climbing shoes if you have them. The best time for climbing trips varies by location: year-round for Lesnichestvo, May-September for Bastions, and spring or autumn for Ili River area routes.
