Description
Departure from Almaty is at 07:00 with hotel pick-up. The journey to the canyon crosses picturesque agricultural fields and pastures. Along the way, the guide-driver shares the history of the Almaty region with short stops for photography.
At the Valley of Castles (Qyzylsay), we park at the descent and take a leisurely 2 km trek each way to EcoPark village. The guide explains the formation and unique features of Charyn Canyon. We pause briefly at the Charyn River for shaded photographs before returning to the vehicle.
Next is a 30-minute drive to the Lunar Canyon (Zhabyr, Uzunbulak) for a 15-minute photo stop. Then we continue to the Charyn River stone shelf, a viewpoint offering a mountain-like landscape at 900 meters altitude, with wall heights reaching 250 meters. Caution is advised here.
The tour proceeds with a 30-minute drive to the “Napoleon” viewpoint, circling the Charyn River with views of the Valley of Castles from the opposite bank. After a 15-minute photo break, we visit the Austrian Spot before returning to Almaty.
