Start early with a pick-up from Almaty and travel east to Charyn National Park. Begin with an easy 2 km hike into the canyon, walking among the striking rock formations of the Valley of Castles and reaching the Charyn River.

Then stop briefly at Black Canyon viewpoint for panoramic photo opportunities. Continue to Saty Village where you can purchase lunch at a local guesthouse or café (meal not included).

In the afternoon, visit Kolsai Lake, also known as the Pearl of the Northern Tien Shan, for a relaxing lakeshore walk and fresh mountain air.
