Fundado em 1975 como uma forma de preservar a cultura alemã no Cazaquistão, o Teatro Alemão de Almaty atrai seguidores do gênio de Goethe, Schiller, Heine e dos irmãos Grimm. Há um terço de século o teatro encena peças em alemão com tradução simultânea em russo para cerca de 10.000 visitantes por ano. O teatro é especializado em produções inovadoras e contemporâneas, além de trabalhos mais tradicionais.
